It's actually on my kindle already, probably picked up during a sale in the last years, just as I picked up Stray. I really liked a lot about Stray, so maybe a non-diary one will work much better for me.

Marianne McA: It's definitely sounding like Meljean and her daughter should try this! :-DRosariohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13015659149421085931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730322.post-47926452284788216392014-02-16T20:17:46.559+00:002014-02-16T20:17:46.559+00:00I loved these: I'm pretty sure I stayed up til...I loved these: I'm pretty sure I stayed up till silly o'clock finishing the first, then blew through the other two & epilogue in short order.
I've never reread them, so I've no useful opinion to offer as to why they worked for me, but at 99p they're worth a go. I would, as one of SB Sarah's Valentine's Day hearts said the other day, fire the squee cannon for this book. So many people told me to read it, people whose tastes are similar to mine, and it took me forever to crack it open. But what a treat.

The story is similar in that the YA MC wakes up after the world has, seemingly, ended and has to find her way, find allies and shelter. The action is presented as it happens, however, and perhaps that made a difference. I loved every minute for many of the same things you liked about STRAY.

I mention AATS because I've joined the Host fan club and would hate for you to miss out. And now I have to push STRAY to the front of the pile. I actually found the diary format more unrealistic during the earlier part of the book - there was a bit of "how on earth is she managing to write down her thoughts when shes struggling to survive", but just went with it.

Meljean - the author occasionally offers STRAY for free, so maybe put a price watch on the Kindle version (I use eReaderIQ) and grab it when it goes on sale?Lihttp://bookdaze.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730322.post-28847935594607397262014-02-16T07:56:58.464+00:002014-02-16T07:56:58.464+00:00Meljean: I read the Book Smugglers' review, to...Meljean: I read the Book Smugglers' review, too, and also a couple from others whose tastes I usually share, and they were all really positive. I'd say go for it. It's 99p at the moment, so if your daughter (or you!) do get bored, you can just abandon it. I'm not sorry I tried it, as I did enjoy the first sections, I'm just sorry I kept reading a bit too long once it became boring.Rosariohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13015659149421085931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730322.post-42365496051541736882014-02-16T07:30:11.626+00:002014-02-16T07:30:11.626+00:00Oh, I was just looking at this one after a positiv...Oh, I was just looking at this one after a positive review from ... the Book Smugglers, I think? I've been wavering because I read the sample, and the diary format isn't my favorite. I probably wouldn't get a chance to read it anyway, but I think my daughter might like it -- and I imagine the format probably wouldn't bother her as much as I can imagine it doing me.

Agh. Decisions, decisions. Meljeannoreply@blogger.com
